Big Twin: The Beginning
Hard to believe, but the origins of today’s Big Twin Gathering can be traced back to a classic car meet.
It was 1983 when a group of bikers showed up at the event. There, spontaneously, they decided to organize a Harley-Davidson gathering the following year.
Said and done. In 1984, 20 bikes came together at a campsite in Oropesa del Mar (Castellón). From that moment on, the Big Twin gathering began to take shape. In 1985, the number doubled: 40 bikes—and it kept growing. By 1988, the event moved to the pine forest of the Grao of Castellón. That year, 500 bikes showed up. The response was incredible.
HDC Crazy Brothers Spain managed the entire event until 1991. That final year, 900 Harley-Davidsons and 1,500 people gathered. Spectacular, especially considering there were barely a dozen Harleys in all of Castellón. The gathering had officially become international.
Growth and Legacy
In 1991, due to various circumstances, Crazy Brothers Spain disbanded, and the 1992 gathering came under the management of a new club: today’s Big Twin España. That year proved that the spirit of the biker community was still alive, even though the number of participants declined.
Just a year later, in 1993, the Big Twin España Gathering began to establish itself as a major biker event, with support from local institutions such as town councils, the Provincial Council, and the Generalitat. The people of Castellón felt proud to host the annual meeting each summer in El Pinar.
Hard times came for the club in 1994. It was on the verge of disappearing, but a new team stepped in to take over. The strategic vision set back then still endures to this day.
Unforgettable moments remain in our memory, such as the visit of Harley-Davidson owner Bill Davidson in 1995, or the legendary Deep Purple concert at the 25th anniversary — and many more yet to be written…
